CAMELION AND LONOMIA

ini latihan bikin short story.. masih banyak kekurangannya,maafkan.. namanya juga latihan.. hehe  :)
 CAMELION AND LONOMIA
by Yulia Vakusti Rahma
In animatopia land lived animals peacefully led by King Namurulion that very wise. Animatopia was a fertile country, prosperous and rich. They  preserved the natural resources.  Rain forest dense, the flowing river water, savannah and greenery into a very beautiful scenery in the country. people worked in agriculture and fisheries. Fruit, flowers, vegetables and fresh fish from Animatopia was the best quality in the world.
King Namurulion was the third king in Animatopia, he was the king of a very thoughtful and generous, people really respect him. The first king was his grandfather ,'King Banumelion, while the second king was his father ,' King Napolion. King Namurulion have a very beautiful daughter her name is Princess Camelion.
One day the king fell ill, the disease was very strange. The witch ‘Lonomia who did it, he wants to kill the king Namurulion with poison and wants to seize the throne. All the royal physician was not able to cure it. King's body swelled and he lay helpless in bed. Queen Madelion and princess Camelion very confused and sad to saw the king Namurulion. News of the king's illness has been heard throughout the country, black clouds covered the Animatopia sky. Hearing this, a palace herbalist ,old tortoise  go out from the mushrooms house and went to the King at the Palace Animatopia. He felt sorry to see the state of the king and told the princess and the queen that he was exposed to toxic witch Lonomia Caterpillar coming out of his body. The poison is very deadly and cause swelling, itching incredible and can cause bleeding in the brain. Because of it the king Namurulion didn’t become sober.
The old tortoise told Princess Camelion that there is a fruit that can save King Namurulion from toxins Lonomia but he had to look it up in the water country, Seatopia. The fruit was named Dulce, the fruit is only grown in the sea park Seatopia. To go there daughter had to pass through a dangerous area, even past the Black Forest, place of Lonomia to stay. Queen heard this very sad and did not let his daughter go, but because of his love for the king  eventually she went to Seatopia with two generals Animatopia, General Hipolius and General Basilica. They departed Animatopia ride the pumpkin train to the Seatopia.
On the Animatopia’s way Princess  was very sad to see the people because of the state of king. King Namurulion is wise and fair king, rules that he created is always concerned with the welfare of the people. In fact, he did not hesitate to defend the people who suffered injustice by the government. So the people feel very sad when the king was poisoned Lonomia. They prayed and  hang wreaths on their gate in every home as a sign of mourning. Daughter was carried away to see it, because people love the king so much.
After a long journey, they entered the pumpkin train in Maison forest. Maison forest is the dense forest with tall trees. Sunlight can not penetrate the thick leaves, the difference between day and night was not seen. When they came at sunset was already night. They also lit illumination of wood and oil while walking down Forest Maison. Until they came to the river bank Maison is located in the middle of the dense forest. Princess exhausted sleep on the riverbank with a leaning pine tree. General Basilica also appeared tired that he fell asleep on a rock at the edge of the river. While the general Hipolius looks vigil around them and withstand the heat of his body while his body was burned. River where the water looks dark, black and appears to have two such layers indicate a secret life in under there. Forest Maison very quiet no noise even insects in the forest. General Hipolius who are eager to soak abandon intention was because there was something that seemed odd with this river. It was getting late, is seen from the air is getting colder until it went into the bone. But for general Hipolius still feel his body heat soak because hippos need to lower the body temperature. He felt great since felt the cold water.
Suddenly there was a voice from the bushes across the river. He was very surprised because the forest was so quiet, and the slightest sound will be heard. Water began to move, and a huge wave suddenly appeared from the water ,general Hipolius want to drag into the whirlpool. General Hipolius fear screaming for help to Princess Camelion and General Basilica. When they heard moans for help from the general Hipolius, they wake up and immediately help general Hipolius who dragged a large wave. Camelion daughter take tendrils at the riverside and throw it to the General Hipolius. They both pull together General Hipolius to the mainland.
"What happened and why all of a sudden there was a big wave at the calm water, general?" Asked the Princess Camelion to the General Hipolius.
"This river has a secret. I wonder what is in it, but I'm sure there are creatures that live here. The evil creatures. "Answered Hipolius.
Big black creature resembling a giant lizard appeared in front of them. Red-eyes creature with long antennae and a forked tongue.
His nose sniffing smells, they do not know what he smelled. But this is not good, they immediately boarded the train and went quickly pumpkin carriage pumpkin spur left the River Forest Maison and mysterious. Dark creatures that continue to follow their noses sniffing like a dog. They throw most of the supplies to distract the creature. And they succeeded, the creature didn’t chasing them again.
At the end of the Maison forest they saw a small hut, made of tree trunks and green grass roof overgrown with lush mushrooms. Wide planted in the yard of spices, fruits and vegetables. White smoke billowing from the small chimney on the side of the house, and there was a bright light in his house. This is the only building that they found in the forest. General Basilica got off the train and knocked on the door of the house. An old man owl out of the door and greet.
"Sir, let us stay overnight here, we were terrified creature chased the river." Generals pleaded to the old man's Basilica.
'' Come and wash you, after that bedraggled your body with the coffee grounds. I do not want to get into the Bunyip my house and take my soul. "replied the old man.
'' All right, sir. Thank you for your kindness.”
After their baths, and they told me their goal here. The old man also claimed that he scientist from Animatopia was kidnapped Lonomia to make poison and magic potion for him. But, knowing the purpose of Lonomia evil, then he fled from the Black Forest and forest fringe Maison stay. He did not want to go back to Animatopia because Lonomia will continue to seek and kidnapped scientists to work for him. While in the forest inhabited by dark creatures' Bunyip and old man was not afraid at all because his house is made of wood and covered with mushrooms and spices. Bunyip hate the smell of spices, coffee powder and spores. All water creatures hate with coffee grounds. In this house he has placed creates a lot of potions and magic powder, it also creates even Lonomia deadly poison.
"You are Lonomia poison maker, so you know what's the antidote? Give the antidote to me, my father was dying of yours poison! Princess was very upset to hear.
'' I'm sorry, your highness. Bidder was only held by the king Sharkpid in the land Seatopia. Dulce Fruit is only able to grow in sea water. Go there and ask the king Sharkpid, show him this badge and you will be able to get it. "The old man said in a low voice.
While general Basilica and General Hipolius asleep from exhaustion, Old man and daughter Camelion storytelling. The old man told him that the daughter has the ability to fly like a bird. When Princess Camelion  was born she had a gem of a country Birdtopia. Daughter born in month and day wolf. On that day all babies that born will died. King Namurulion very sad and asks ‘jewel of life’ in the City of Stone Mountain Birdtopia to make daughter alive. The stone is a sacred stone Birdtopia that give strength to the birds in the country Birdtopia.
The old man stood up and walked to the closet potion. He took the crate and then put some magic potion. And take the cloak worn from the other cabinets.
"I can’t give you the antidote, but I can make you be protected from witchcraft and poison Lonomia. This robe is a robe disappeare, you could disappear and not be seen by anyone with this robe. It is a concoction that I made, you can eliminate toxins from the body Lonomia if you flush it with the onion water, after  that cut its needle then Lonomia will lose toxins and all the magic. "Oldman While showed potion bottles.
'' Thank you, man!'' Said Princess Camelion.
It's already dawn and they went to look for fruit Seatopia for Dulce. Oldman stop them and tell other way to get to Seatopia so as not to pass through the Black Forest. They have to go north and take the path leading to the valley and the sea. Although this path further than through the Black Forest but it would be safer to not meet Lonomia. Step-by-step pumpkin carriage house wood left to the north woods. They passed the valley and finally reached the edge of the beach. This is the starting gate towards Seatopia, all land creatures and water was separated through this gate. they climb the giant oysters and put bubbles in the head to breathe under water. Oysters begin to close and slowly headed to the seabed. At the bottom of the sea mouth of oysters begin to open, they begin to fall from the mouth of oyster reefs along the pillars to the Altar of the King's palace Seatopia. In front of King Sharkpid, Princess Camelion  come to express their goals and show badge Seatopia from oldman owl. After the king shows that the king Sharkpid badge, Camelion escorted by troops to a marine park and pick fruit kudalaut Dulce for her father. The badge is a key of sea park, and only Lonomia, oldman and Sharkpid who got the badge. After getting the fruit Princess Camelion like to thank the King Sharkpid. They went from Seatopia back to Animatopia.
But, it turns out they forgot pathway previously notified Oldman. They pass through the Black Forest. The deeper the more in carrying them into the black forest and suddenly they were ambushed troops of red-eyed wolf. The train they were on was stopped by troops. The troops are Lonomia forces. General Hipolius Basilica and generals fought bravely against the forces of the wolf. Lonomia emerged from behind the trees and approached the Camelion, camelion immediately using the cloak disappears, take a bottle of water in the crate herb onion. He quiet out of the train and hide in order not to be found Lonomia. But, Lonomia was clever, he was ordered wolf to smell his scent. The wolf was getting closer and closer to the princess. Finally Princess caught him running toward the valley pursued Lonomia and a wolf. Daughter cant go anywhere and eventually fell into a ravine. Lonomia regret cant kill Camelion with his hand self, but he was also very happy because camelion dead so no saving Namurulion, and he can have his throne.
Camelion oldman remember the words that he could have the ability as a bird. He flew and surprisingly Lonomia. Then Camelion pour the liquid into the body Lonomia onions and took the sword from the wolf. Camelion will momentarily cut tentacle Lonomia, Lonomia gave up and asked Camelion to order release. Daughter was let go and move on back to Animatopia. Arriving at animatopia they are very excited to bring fruit Dulce. However, the palace turned into sadness. King has died, they turned out too long to bring the fruit to the king Dulce. Camelion regret very deep but if he felt the country participated fragile too. Finally, he led his country replaces King Namurulion. To be the queen of the whole Camelion must have a husband. And unexpected people that come to marry the daughter is Lonomia. Lonomia apologize to Camelion for his wrongness. Instead, she wanted to accompany Camelion to lead Animatopia peace.

THE FLOWERING OF THE STRANGE ORCHID

Peringatan Hari Ibu 22 Desember 2013 di CFD Solo

"Ibu ajari aku mencintaimu  setulus cintamu untukku"
Menjadi ibu bukanlah hal gampang.

Phsycologycal aspect on Teaching and Learning (Motivation, self esteem and anxiety)

-motivation
The definition of motivation
“Motivation is defined as an internal drive that activates behavior and gives it direction. The term motivation theory is concerned with the processes that describe why and how human behavior is activated and directed”  .Motivation is  some kind of internal drive which pushes someone to do things in order to achieve something.Marion Williams and Richard Burden suggest that motivation is a state of cognitive arousal which provokes a decision to act as a result of which there is sustained intellectual and/or physical effort so that person can achieve some previously set goal.
Why do we need motivated students? Motivated students will eventually become entrepreneurs or work for an employer. These motivated employees help organizations survive. Motivated employees are more productive (Lindner, 1998).
How do we motivate our students? Research show that setting objectives is an effective way of helping students learn and recall information. It is important for students to set not only long term goals of the project, but the short term goals as well. ( Briggs, Gustafson, & Tillman, 1992, p. 110 )
Teachers often blame a student’s learning problems on his or her so-called lack of motivation. According to Driscoll (2000) teachers believe that this lack of motivation is the underlying reason students avoid class work, refuse to become fully engaged in a learning task, fail to complete work they could easily do, or are willing to complete a task only for some tangible reward it may bring.
It is almost as if teachers believe motivation to be an innate trait of learners rather than a variable that is significantly shaped and influenced by outside factors (Paris & Turner, 1994).

The kind of motivation :
Intrinsic motivation
Intrinsic motivation is the self-desire to seek out new things and new challenges, to analyze one's capacity, to observe and to gain knowledge. It is driven by an interest or enjoyment in the task itself, and exists within the individual rather than relying on external pressures or a desire for reward. Intrinsic motivation has been studied since the early 1970s. The phenomenon of intrinsic motivation was first acknowledged within experimental studies of animal behavior. In these studies, it was evident that the organisms would engage in playful and curiosity driven behaviors in the absence of reward. Intrinsic motivation is a natural motivational tendency and is a critical element in cognitive, social, and physical development. Students who are intrinsically motivated are more likely to engage in the task willingly as well as work to improve their skills, which will increase their capabilities Students are likely to be intrinsically motivated if they:
  • attribute their educational results to factors under their own control, also known as autonomy or locus of control
  • believe they have the skills to be effective agents in reaching their desired goals, also known as self-efficacy beliefs
  • are interested in mastering a topic, not just in achieving good grades
·         Extrinsic motivation
Extrinsic motivation
Extrinsic motivation  refers to the performance of an activity in order to attain a desired outcome and it is the opposite of intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation comes from influences outside of the individual. Common extrinsic motivations are rewards (for example money or grades) for showing the desired behavior, and the threat of punishment following misbehavior. Competition is in an extrinsic motivator because it encourages the performer to win and to beat others, not simply to enjoy the intrinsic rewards of the activity. A cheering crowd and the desire to win a trophy are also extrinsic incentives.
·         Source of Motivation : the motivation that brings students to the task of learning English can be affected and influenced by the attitude of a number of people. It is worth considering what and who these are since they form part of the world around students feeling and engagement with the learning process.
1.    The society we live in
2.    Significant others : parents, older siblings and student’s peer
3.    The teacher
4.    The method
·         Six Ways to Motivate Students to Learn
Scientific research has provided us with a number of ways to get the learning juices flowing, none of which involve paying money for good grades. And most smart teachers know this, even without scientific proof.
1.   Fine-tune the challenge. We’re most motivated to learn when the task before us is matched to our level of skill: not so easy as to be boring, and not so hard as to be frustrating. Deliberately fashion the learning exercise so that students are working at the very edge of your abilities, and keep upping the difficulty as they improve.
2.  Start with the question, not the answer. Memorizing information is boring. Discovering the solution to a puzzle is invigorating. Present material to be learned not as a fait accompli, but as a live question begging to be explored.
3.   Encourage students to beat their personal best. Some learning tasks, like memorizing the multiplication table or a list of names or facts, are simply not interesting in themselves. Generate motivation by encouraging students to compete against themselves: run through the material once to establish a baseline, then keep track of how much they improve (in speed, in accuracy) each time.
4.   Connect abstract learning to concrete situations. Adopt the case-study method that has proven so effective for business, medical and law school students: apply abstract theories and concepts to a real-world scenario, using these formulations to analyze and make sense of situations involving real people and real stakes.
5.   Make it social. Put together a learning group, or have students find learning partners with whom they can share their moments of discovery and points of confusion. Divide the learning task into parts, and take turns being teacher and pupil. The simple act of explaining what they’re learning out loud will help them understand and remember it better.
6.   Go deep. Almost any subject is interesting once you get inside it. Assign the task of becoming the world’s expert on one small aspect of the material they have to learn—then extend their new expertise outward by exploring how the piece they know so well connects to all the other pieces they need to know about.
Motivation is likely to be highest when:
1.    Learners do not experience frequent failure and harsh criticism.
2.    The curriculum material is interesting and relevant; topics are sufficiently challenging, but not overwhelming.
3.    Learners are encouraged to set their own goals and are then supported in achieving them.
4.    Learners are given the opportunity to make choices and exercise some control over what they do in class and the manner in which they do it (greater autonomy).
5.     Collaborative group work is used frequently.
6.    Teachers reverse students’ negative thinking about their own capabilities, and enhance positive self-belief by encouraging open discussion about learning, learning strategies, effort, and ability.
7.    Teachers remember to apply the principle that learners’ motivation and confidence are enhanced by respect and approval from others.
8.    If a reward system is used in the classroom it should ensure that all students attain rewards if they put in sufficient effort.

©      Self Esteem
·        Self-esteem is a disposition that a person has which represents their judgments of their own worthiness. Olsen, J. M.; Breckler, S. J.; Wiggins, E. C. (2008).
·         Self-esteem has been compared to a bucket of water. It starts out full when we're born, but whenever we develop negative beliefs about ourselves, it's like poking little holes in that bucket and our self-esteem drips out.* Have the group brainstorm a list of things we do or say to ourselves or to others that pokes holes in the self-esteem bucket. Put this list on the wall to serve as a constant reminder.
·          At the top of this column is a list of things we can do to protect, raise, or reinforce our self-esteem. Go through this list with the group and discuss each point. How might each of these things contribute to a higher self-esteem? Can they think of any additional suggestions of their own?
·         Eleanor Roosevelt said "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission." Have a group discussion about this quote. What does it mean? How true is it? Can you think of cases where it might not be true? In what kinds of situations would this quote be most useful to remember?
·         Have everybody in the class bring in one or two advertisements aimed at teenagers. These can be cut out of magazines or taped off of TV. Have a class discussion to evaluate the ads by asking the following questions: How is this ad attempting to appeal to me? What assumptions does this ad make about me? How is this ad intended to make me feel about myself? Is there anything about this ad that's intended to make me feel is ad intended to make me feel better about myself, or bad about myself? In what way is this ad attempting to appeal to me? Would I be most vulnerable to this ad if I had high self esteem, or low self-esteem?
·         THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-ESTEEM AND THE IMPLICATIONS FOR TEACHERS
·         Self-esteem is the sum and substance of one's feelings and thoughts about who we are and as such is of great importance.
·         Self-esteem is the foundation that we build the rest of us on.Self-esteem, or one's sense of worth, is often fragile and sensitive to events that happen on a day-to-day basis.
·         Self-esteem is critical for individuals to think about and be able to
1.    take advantage of strengths and for learning from mistakes (metacognition).
2.    Healthy self-esteem is an essential component for learning. Regardless of age, the self-esteem of a learner facilitates or inhibits learning.(Solomon 1992)
3.    Learning is growth - intellectual, physical, psychological, social, spiritual and combinations of those. In every aspect of this learning process there is the potential to damage, maintain or increase self-esteem. Self-esteem in most students 'mirrors' the appraisals of others, in particular parents and teachers. Teachers views clearly affect learners achievements. Positive appraisals over an extended time tend to increase the level of learning. Prolonged or consistent negative appraisals tend to lower learning achievement. Students tend to perform in accordance with teacher expectations and treatment - self-fulfilling prophecy (Loomans & Loomans 1994).

·         Teachers find that students with low self-esteem exhibit some or all of the following characteristics:
1.    learning problems
2.    social and emotional problems
3.    behaviour problems
4.    unstable home lives
5.    high absenteeism
6.    frequent illness
·         The wide range of experiences a student has while going through school - scholastic, athletic, social, emotional - all constitute input to his or her self-esteem development. Every success and failure, together with the reactions of peers, parents and teachers to these experiences, will contribute significantly to the students self-worth, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-competence (Robb & Letts 1995).
·         As teachers we can be instrumental in creating a classroom environment which nurtures and supports students developing self-esteem. This can be achieved by modeling to students that mistakes are part of the learning process for both children and adults. It is important to empower and skill students to assess their achievements in a positive productive manner. This creates autonomous learners. Students need to be encouraged to develop support systems both within and outside of the classroom so that they feel confident to take risks in their learning.
·         Lack of confidence in one’s ability obviously relates to self-efficacy, as discussed above, and to feelings of self-worth and fear of failure. To protect feelings of selfworth some students would rather their failures be attributed to the fact they had not made an effort rather than that they lacked ability (Covington & Teel,1996).
©         Anxiety
·            Anxiety is an unpleasant state of inner turmoil, often accompanied by nervous behavior, such as pacing back and forth, somatic complaints and rumination. Seligman, M.E.P.; Walker, E.F.; Rosenhan, D.L..
·           Impact of Anxiety
Anxiety disordered students
1.    Obvious distress and disability
2.    Less likely to have satisfying social relationships
3.    Higher ongoing usage of health facilities
4.    Take longer to move out of home
5.    Live a life (in their own words) of “missed opportunity”
6.    Early anxiety disorders predict adult anxiety disorders, depression, suicide, substance abuse and conduct problems
7.    85% of depressed adolescents have a history of childhood anxiety
8.    growing out of it’is a myth
·         Academic Impact of Anxiety
1.    Anxiety leads to poor academic performance & under-achievement
2.    High anxious children in grade 1 are 10x more likely to be in bottom 1/3 of class by grade 5
3.    High anxious students score lower than peers on measures of IQ and achievement tests (eg basic skills)
4.    Anxiety leads to poor engagement in class
5.    High anxious students often avoid tasks that require communication or that involve potential peer or teacher evaluation
6.    They consequently miss the benefit of interactive learning experiences
7.    Anxiety leads to school refusal•Anxiety leads to drop out–49% of anxious adults report having left education early, 24% indicated anxiety as the primary reason•Academic consequences lead to long term economic losses for individual and society
·         How does anxiety impact at school?
1.    Learning
2.    Attention
3.    Interpretation
4.    Concentration
5.    Memory
6.    Social Interaction
7.    Beliefs/Expectations
8.    Health
